I found some old footage from 2019 when I installed some Spyder projector headlights into the Xploder. The Spyder headlights come setup only for halogen bulbs so I converted it to run with HIDs for the low beams and halogens for the high beams. Here is most of the process I went through to get everything modified to fit and wired up to run as projector HIDs. It’s been over 2 years since this was all filmed hence the low quality video/audio (plus a few gaps where footage was lost or corrupted, blah).

Everything has been working fine with the headlights since the conversion!

Items used:

NOTE: You may need to email and ask for H1 bulbs instead of the default kit included bulbs which would be 9007. The projector housing uses H1 bulbs instead if you go with the below kit. Also, the headlight listed below is not the exact one that I purchased but looks to be similar. Original listing is long gone. There are tons of variations and options floating around to choose from.

I have a 60+ page “build” thread over at the explorer forum (https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/) at https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/2000-awd-xploder-from-turbo-back-to-na.319010/ which details a long painful slow process of learning and trial and error, including some posts mentioning this conversion.

See the Xploder overview video for more info on the mods and things done to the car.

I plan to do many more videos as I continue dabbling on my Xploder, work on repairing and restoring my 82 El Camino SS, doing some maintenance stuff on the Nissan NV3500, and maintaining (and more?) my wife’s 2019 Ford Mustang Eco-Boost Premium… Stay tuned!

Peace!
